Drug Abuse Concept and Definition

Though the definitions of drug abuse are many and often varied, the basic definition states that it is the willful consumption of a performance enhancing or psychoactive substance for non-medical or non-therapeutic reasons. In addition to the definition, the prevalence of drug-related crimes compounds the issue even further. Ultimately, prolonged drug abuse oftentimes results in physical or psychological harm (or both), and of course, death.
