Physical addiction to drugs and alcohol is a very real condition. Many people believe that addicts don’t quit simply because they are lazy, lack willpower, or don’t have enough motivation. Unfortunately, this is simply not the case. The definition of a physical addiction says that when an individual stops using the substance, they experience physical withdrawal symptoms. Other common criteria for addiction are an increased level of tolerance to the substance and continuing to use it regardless of what negative consequences result. (more…)

Family Programs at Rehab Centers

Family members are affected by their loved one’s alcoholism and drug addiction in significant ways. Bonds with parents, siblings, children, and significant others end up damaged, and this doesn’t magically disappear when the individual enters into an addiction treatment program. More often than not, an addict’s relatives or spouse end up in an enabling or co-dependent relationship. The entire family dynamics can be changes when everything seems to revolve around the issues that an alcohol or drug addiction causes.
