Drug addiction is a very serious condition in children and adolescents just as much as it is in adults. Statistics show that drug addictions begin in people as young as 10 to 12 years.

This is a sorry situation indeed. What makes it sorrier is that these children will grow up with this addiction and the addiction will only become more and more severe as the years will pass on.Today, state governments are chalking out their own plans to combat the menace of drug addiction in children and young adults. These plans are backed by the national government in a big way, and assisted by the various drug rehab centers across the country.

These drug abuse treatment plans are usually divided into five basic steps.

The first step is to identify the kind of drug that is prevalent within a particular community. Steps are taken to funnel this drug out of the community using legal approaches.

The second step is to study already used drug treatment and prevention programs and see which one can be implemented in the current scenario.

The third step would be to carry out research within the community with specific goals and strategies in an attempt to make the drug treatment and prevention program to work.

The fourth step would be to plan out and implement long term goals to protect future entrants into the community from possible addictions.

The fifth step is to find out what steps must be taken on a regular basis to keep the drug addiction at bay.

These five steps become a part of an ongoing endeavor to fight the menace of drug addiction from a society that contains a vulnerable younger population.
