It can also cause death both in administration and during heroin withdrawal. Heroin, according to the Drug Abuse Warning Network, has accounted for more than 50% of drug deaths found to be accidental or unexpected.
Heroin is a highly addictive substance abused in America, and its use is a serious problem in America. It’s currently thought that roughly 600,000 people in America are in need of heroin addiction treatment. Heroin can be administered in several ways – injection, smoking or inhaling the fumes. Current estimates suggest that nearly 600,000 people need treatment for heroin addiction. Recent studies show that most users have shifted from injecting heroin to the latter two methods because the dose is more pure, and there’s a common misconception that it will not lead to a heroin addiction.
Heroin sold in the street has additives that usually don’t dissolve easily. Because of this, they clot in the blood and can obstruct blood flow to the vital organs.The Drug Abuse Awareness Network reported an increase in emergency room visits due to heroin related problems had risen 15%.
The University of Michigan conducted a study in 2002 in an effort to find out about the average heroin use distribution. It was found that 1.6% of 8th graders, 1.8% of 10th graders and 1.7% of 12th graders had tried or regularly used heroin at some point in their lives. It was also reported that 0.9% of these 8th graders, 1.1% of 10th graders, and 1% of the 12th graders had admitted to using heroin in the year prior.
