When friends find that one of their close friends have substance abuse problem, they’re unsure of how to react. While some people put their substance abuse problem right out in the open, others manage to hide it from the ones that they care about.

When those people find out about the substance abuse problem, they are often scared, and hurt; they feel as if there is nothing that they can do, as much as they wish they could help. There are ways to help someone who is going through a drug abuse problem, however. By talking to the person you care about who is having the substance abuse problem, you can, at the least, express your feelings. In the worst case scenario, you have vented to the person that is affecting your life negatively (and that you are worried about), and they brush it off. In better scenarios however, the person with the drug abuse problem listens, and begins to understand the effect that their substance abuse is having on others.

Once someone realizes the affect that their substance abuse problem is having on those around them, they may start to yearn for a change; whether it be simple treatment, or rehab, your thoughts spoken may be able to help someone fix their life. As a friend, you should be able to express your emotion. Doing so can help you help a friend with a substance abuse problem realize what they are doing and possibly seek addiction treatment.
