What to Know About Heroin Abuse and Heroin Addiction

Heroin is a highly addictive substance abused in America, and its use is a serious problem in America. It’s currently thought that roughly 600,000 people in America are in need of heroin addiction treatment.

Heroin abuse can be done in several ways – injection, smoking or inhaling the fumes. Recent studies show that most users have shifted from injecting heroin to the latter two methods because the dose is more pure, and there’s a common misconception that it will not lead to a heroin addiction.
Heroin sold in the street has additives that usually don’t dissolve easily. Because of this, they clot in the blood and can obstruct blood flow to the vital organs. Heroin abuse can cause death in this way.Heroin is one of the most dangerous drugs that is in use in the United Sates and the rest of the world. Heroin abuse can cause hallucination, drowsiness, disorientation, and seizures. Heroin abuse can cause death both in administration and during heroin withdrawal. Heroin abuse has caused more than 50% of drug-related deaths found to be accidental or unexpected.

The University of Michigan conducted a study in 2002 in an effort to find out about the average heroin use distribution. It was found that 1.6% of 8th graders, 1.8% of 10th graders and 1.7% of 12th graders had tried or regularly used heroin at some point in their lives. It was also reported that 0.9% of these 8th graders, 1.1% of 10th graders, and 1% of the 12th graders had admitted to using heroin in the year prior. The Drug Abuse Awareness Network reported an increase in emergency room visits due to heroin related problems had risen 15%.
